Itacolomi State Park - Situated in the riverside of Itacolomi,
between Ouro Preto and Mariana. Lush vegetation, with the predominance
of shrubs. The hydro-system is made up of innumerable streams and
the Custodio Dam. The fauna is maned wolf, cougar, little two-toed
ant-bear, birds, armadillo, deers, apes and others. The peak
was the point of reference for the first pioneers who arrived here after
1694. This notable rocky massif, which angrily resisted the inexorable
action of time, can also be seen from the road which links Ouro Preto to
Belo Horizonte, from Serra do Itabirito and some points on the route
which links Belo Horizonte to Rio de Janeiro. |

The Caraça National Park is located 1800 meters above sea level.
It was a school since the seventeen hundreds untill 1968. Today there is a
hotel. Rivers, waterfalls, treks, flora, wild
animals and the wolves feeding at evening time are the highlights of the
place. |
