Sao Joao del Rei was
colonized on the XVIII century by Bandeirantes from Sao Paulo along the gold
rush. Around the historic
center, the city expanded and, now, offers excellent infrastructure to the
most demanding tourist, with international level hotels and restaurants.
It’s the only place in Brazil where pewter pieces are produced. There are
fabrics and stores, which sells from souvenirs to domestic utilities. Other
craftsmanship goods are wooden pieces and ceramics, besides bedspreads,
table-cloths and carpets.
Present economy : Gold, manganese, rutile, diamond, monazite sand,
textile industry and pewter. Located 14 kilometers from
Tiradentes. |
